"…basic, primary, fundamental, essential, root, underlying; rudimentary"

This series of images are part of a larger and long established series concerned with the 'Five Elements' present in both asian art and philosophy; Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Void. In Buddhist belief, it is understood that the 'Elements' are essential to all observation and real sensations. These elements are the underlying guide to my practice. The images are not digitally composed. What you see is what I photographed. A sense of emptiness lies at the heart of the project. The images appear to be minimal, but if closely examined, there is a wealth of detail in them. The images intentionally leave room for each viewer’s interpretation. By choosing a particular level of abstraction, I seek to suggest rather than dictate their meaning. They are a perceptual/emotional offering.”
